A large, elegant building with tower-like structures and arched windows is warmly lit at dusk, surrounded by trees and a wide driveway under a clear blue sky.

Timeless Equestrian Barn Designs That Inspire

Since our founding in 2000, we’ve had the rare privilege of building many remarkable equestrian barns and estate structures throughout North America. Each one tells a story — of a dream realized, a partnership between craft and purpose, and a shared devotion to the beauty of equestrian life. These aren’t just barns; they’re architectural heirlooms, designed to serve generations of horses and riders with grace, function, and timeless style.

Here, we’re revisiting some of our most memorable builds from the past 25 years. Their timeless design, craftsmanship, and the spirit of those who bring them to life continue to inspire us as we create the next generation of exceptional barns.

A Stately Home for Horses in Sarasota

Blending comfort, beauty, and function, this stunning Florida facility contains 24 custom mahogany stalls. Their StableComfort flooring, large windows, and fans keep horses comfortable, while rubber-paved aisles ensure their safety. The spacious tack room features handcrafted racks and a central island for organization, and a Lutron system controls lighting and sound throughout the structure. An owner’s lounge, kitchen, office, and exercise room complete this classically designed space.

Greek Revival Meets Southern Charm

This Virginia stable emerged from a simpler existing structure that its owner had outgrown. Now redesigned and clad with cupolas, pediments, and columns to reflect a classic Southern aesthetic, the barn features skylights atop ribbed barrel-vaulted ceilings over a wide central corridor and wide stalls, created with the comfort and safety of horses and riders foremost in mind.

A Crown Jewel of Equestrian Estates

On Maryland’s Eastern Shore, this monument to the love of horses contains dozens of stalls, a riding arena, a tack room, offices, and a clubhouse within its 54,000 square feet. Its horseshoe shape and orientation allow for maximum capture of bay breezes as large cupolas let natural light flood the spaces below. Robust Douglas fir timber framing is accompanied by exquisite timber ceilings, doors, and details throughout.

Space to Relax, Run — Even Swim — in Saddle River

This charming 12-stall horse barn in Saddle River, New Jersey, perfectly balances beauty and function. The custom tack room impresses with handcrafted cabinets, mounted wooden saddle racks, and a central island with sink, an enviable feature built to last. Beyond the barn, the property offers indoor and outdoor arenas, Blackwood Euro stalls, run-in sheds, and a pool with a covered patio and stone fireplace, all designed for comfort, safety, and enduring style.

Striking Details in Sewell, New Jersey

Drawing inspiration from English stables, this equestrian barn exudes timeless elegance. The interior is replete with 10 horse stalls, plus wash and grooming stalls and an indoor riding arena. Throughout, timber framing speaks to its durability, while stone cladding and sturdy Tudor-style doors and arches add whimsy with a classical air. To keep its horses safe and thriving, large stalls, rubber flooring, and proper ventilation complete the structure.

A Chester County Home for Equestrian Care

Chester County, Pennsylvania, is renowned for its horse farms and equine barns, and this veterinary office is designed to honor that architectural heritage. Its exterior mimics those classic fieldstone barns, but inside, rather than rows of horse stalls, the facility features exam rooms, a medical lab, and care areas for its patients. Above, dormers and cupolas allow natural light to bathe the rooms with a calming glow.

Echoes of the Old West

Nestled into Colorado’s Eastern Plains, this A-frame gabled barn routinely takes on hard work and harsh winters. Under its steeply sloped silver metal roof, mortise-and-tenon joinery locks timber beams together without nails or metal bracing, recalling a style of building used by earlier settlers of this area. Six stalls provide accommodations for horses, while above, the loft holds room for storage and hay.

Contemporary Grandeur in Connecticut

Over a span of 8,500 square feet, this luxury equestrian stable houses 19 custom horse stalls, six paddocks, a jump field, and a muck building. The facility is surrounded by meticulously groomed grounds, with wide paths leading to the barn’s generously sized custom doors. The white oak interior keeps the atmosphere cheery for both horses and riders.
